Mini Wardrobe Contest 2014

Hello, everyone! I’m back from the beach and am happy to report that I have officially finished the 5 pieces I planned for the Pattern Review 2014 Mini Wardrobe Contest. This started with a “summer sewing plan” and came together as 2 dresses, 1 swim suit, 1 cover-up beach blouse, and 1 scarf. I did swap out the blouse I had chosen for a different one, but I stuck with my summer vacation theme and am very happy with the results.

It was a great challenge to come up with pieces that could mix and match and coordinate with each other. Honestly, I’m rarely so organized when it comes to my own style and personal sense of fashion. This contest practically guaranteed that I would make things that I would actually wear and enjoy.

Here is a link to my contest entry, which has links to my reviews of each pattern used: Mini Wardrobe Contest 2014 Composite Review

The patterns I used were:

McCall’s 6754 – The Rocker Dress (originally blogged here)
This dress is great fun with its full circle skirt. Very comfortable and easy to put together.

Colette 1028 – Moneta
Moneta is one of my favorite patterns, and is a great starter dress for beginners or those new to knits. You can build a fun and comfy wardrobe fast with the Moneta pattern.

Closet Case Files – Bombshell Swim Suit (originally blogged here)
This pattern was challenging for an ambitious beginner like me, but not overly difficult. Even with the mistakes I made, I love how it turned out. This is a very modest but still sexy swim suit, and I love the retro vibe. It works particularly well on curvy figures. Honestly, it has looked great on every single person I’ve seen it on.

Butterick See & Sew 6042 – Blouse
I sewed up the largest version of this blouse in a semi-sheer lightweight cotton to use as a beach cover-up. It also works well knotted at the waist for a throwback look over a dress or cami.

Tilly & The Buttons – Love at First Stitch Brigitte Scarf
This set of instructions for self-drafting a scarf pattern comes from Tilly’s book, Love at First Stitch. It’s a fast and easy make, and is a great way to put together some coordinating accessories for your other me-mades!

I absolutely love this mini wardrobe! I think it’s really unique, since you found a way to throw a swimsuit in there and still have such a wearable and coordinated set of pieces for summer. And I agree with you about the Bombshell pattern: I’ve never seen anyone look anything less than amazing in it! (And yours is no exception!) I’ll definitely be voting for you when the contest wraps up. =)

Thanks, Mads! It was fun planning out summer things I could wear on vacation. My next round will be things I can wear to work… not nearly as much fun, but since I have pretty relaxed workplace dress options, I’ll still get some good pieces out of it! 🙂
