What looks like a cozy sweater but isn’t? This dress! It’s my fake sweater Coco dress!
I am so close to having this pattern perfectly modified. This version was my latest draft, and I’m very happy with it. The only thing I have to figure out is the sleeves. They’re a tiny bit tight in the underarm. I think it may be because I cut a size smaller in the top (based on my upper bust) – and that worked very well for the neckline and shoulders – but the armscyes are a little too small. But the FBA worked really well, and I think I’ve given the midsection enough ease that I’m not completely self-conscious but enough fit that there’s still some shape to the dress. The shape would probably hold even better with a medium weight knit.
I almost ditched this attempt early on, as the fabric is much lighter weight than Coco is intended for. It was giving me fits! The neckline was so frustrating that I had to walk away from it for a bit, but it came together well enough on my second try. Since I had such little hope for this fabric, I didn’t even try to match my stripes, figuring it would end up in the pajama bin, but now I wish I had tried! I think this dress will be wearable. Why not?!
Now I just need to sew up some short sleeved Cocos for summer!
